PLEASE USE your bank accountand “Sending to a Friend” to avoid fees.
As a woman, I provide goods and services to other men and women in exchange for their money. This is called trade. It is a private transaction. Therefore, the government is not involved and cannot tax it. When a corporation provides goods and services to another corporation in exchange for money, that is called commerce. Commerce is a public transaction. The government regulates commerce and commerce is taxed. You and I are not corporations. Therefore, we cannot engage in commerce. We can only engage in trade. PayPal offers two options for sending money.
To friends and family
For goods and services
From PayPal’s vantage point, the friends and family option is private trade. The goods and services option is commerce. And therefore, the recipient must provide tax id information and pay a fee. So, from PayPal’s perspective, you and I are friends. To have a private transaction, you need to send me money as a friend. If you send me money using PayPal’s categorization of goods and services, PayPal thinks I’m a corporation and will require me to submit tax id info and pay a fee. To avoid fees when using PayPal, you must do two things:
Use your bank account instead of a debit or credit card to send payment. You need to link your bank account to your PayPal account. This will avoid fees on your end.
Use the friends and family option. This will avoid PayPal requiring me to provide tax id info and charging me a fee.
If you use a debit or credit card when using the friends and family option, PayPal will think you are a corporation, and charge you a fee to use their service. If you don’t want to pay that fee, you need use your bank account. To link your bank account, log into your account, click wallet. Then click link a bank and follow the prompts. To use the friend and family option, log into your account. click send. Enter my username which is @erinodonnell17, my photo will pop up, click it, enter the dollar amount, click what is this payment for, enter the good or service you are buying, click continue, click sending to a friend, click continue and then to send the payment, click continue again. If you use a debit or credit card when sending money to a friend or family, PayPal will think you’re a corporation and charge you a fee. If you click paying for an item or service, PayPal thinks that I am a corporation and will charge me a fee and will require me to submit tax id info.
